Job Summary
The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing the technical, engineering, maintenance, and production support functions of the FMCG manufacturing operation. The role ensures that facilities, machinery, production systems, utilities, and technical processes operate safely, efficiently, reliably, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the technical, engineering, maintenance, and utilities teams.
- Oversee the maintenance and reliability of production machinery, equipment, facilities, and utilities.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime.
- Provide technical direction for production operations, equipment troubleshooting, and process improvements.
- Ensure production equipment operates efficiently and meets required performance standards.
- Lead the installation, commissioning, modification, and upgrading of production equipment and systems.
- Develop and manage the technical department's annual budget, maintenance costs, and capital expenditure projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment efficiency, reduce energy consumption, minimize downtime, and control operating costs.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, GMP, and other applicable manufacturing requirements.
- Establish technical standards, procedures, and maintenance policies across the facility.
- Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and other departments to support operational targets.
- Manage external contractors, suppliers, equipment vendors, and technical service providers.
- Evaluate technical specifications and recommend suitable machinery, equipment, and technology for production operations.
- Monitor key technical performance indicators such as equipment availability, downtime, maintenance costs, and energy consumption.
- Lead continuous improvement and engineering projects to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities, equipment history, technical reports, and engineering projects.
- Develop and mentor technical and engineering personnel and ensure appropriate training and competency development.
- Provide technical reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Perform other technical and managerial duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Professional engineering license is an advantage, where applicable.
- At least 5--10 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, or technical management, preferably within the FMCG industry.
- Proven experience managing technical, engineering, and maintenance teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of production machinery, industrial equipment, utilities, electrical and mechanical systems, and facility maintenance.
- Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
- Experience in equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and improvement projects.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food/product safety, occupational health and safety, and relevant manufacturing standards is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, contractors, technical projects, and multiple priorities.
- Willing to work flexible hours and respond to critical technical or production issues when required.
