THE CARPENTER
A type of skilled worker who specializes in constructing formwork that acts as a mold in which concrete can be poured and supported until it sets. This type of carpenter will work with various types of formwork (e.g. PERI or DOKA) and falsework to create a usable mold before any concrete pouring processes begin. The formwork carpenter may also help in the process of pouring the concrete and monitoring as it sets. Once the concrete has set fully, the carpenter will be responsible for removing the falsework and formwork.
Carpenters also erect and dismantle temporary metal scaffolding on structures and building sites, so that other people can work at height and carry out their jobs safely. Workers may set up scaffolding around a structure, or inside a building undergoing construction, renovation or demolition.
Requirements and Skills:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a concrete structure carpenter
- Reading blueprints, drawings and sketches for concrete structures
- Knowledge of PERI formwork and shoring (or similar – MEVA, DOKA, ALSINA, ULMA)
- Good understanding of basic math
- Good physical condition and endurance
- Valid driver’s license (an advantage)
- Ability to read and speak English.
- Taking measurements and calculating the size and amount of material needed
- Assembly and bracing of modular form system and scaffolding (and other common construction structures)
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Desire to grow and advance within the company with commensurate salary growth (an advantage)
- Ability to work with and without direct supervision
- Prefer high school diploma or equivalent/higher
